Christmas Fayre

Late Night Shopping Event.
Friday 2nd December 2016
Christmas tree lights switched on @ 6.30 p.m.

On a cold dry night in December 2016 Bourton on the Water Chamber of Commerce once again held its traditional late night shopping event.

Proceedings began with Bourton Chamber of Commerce and Mark Cummings from BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenting a cheque for £1000 to Rachel Ramsey from Winston’s Wish. Mark then switched on the lights of the 30′ Christmas tree which famously stands in the river Windrush and is decorated each year by Colin Baldwin Electrical.

Once again the Chamber of Commerce committee decided to take the event back to basics and only allow stalls from its own members, local charities or people who did not compete with selling goods its members already sold, much to the annoyance of a few people.
To fund the event and allow us to make the donation we did to Winston’s Wish we asked all businesses in Bourton for a donation of £25, a small amount considering the foot fall on the evening. To date only the following businesses have made a donation and in some cases a much larger sum :-
Aroma India, Bakery on the Water, Bourton Basket, Bourton Panto Group, Bourton riverside Café, Broadlands Guest House, The Cedars, Chester House Hotel, Chestnut Gallery, The Chestnut Tree Restaurant, Coffee Hub, Cotswold Candles, Cotswold China & Cookware, Cotswold Motor Museum, Cotswold Perfumery, Cotswold Sheepskin, The Cotswold Shop, Croft Cottage Tearooms, The Den, The Dial House Hotel, Fresh 4 Lunch, Garlands Little Sweet Shop, Gift Times, Hartwell’s,  Hatton Electrical, Highbridge Jewellers, Kendal & Davies Solicitors, Lansdowne Hotel, The Lawns B & B, The Little Nook, Mousetrap Inn, Payne Bridge Gift Shop, Picturesque, Quirky, Sweet Memory’s, The Victorian Christmas Shop and lastly a private donation from Carol Groome.

The event was very well attended and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people for without their help the event would not have taken place:- Bourton Parish Council for their contribution towards the cost of the tree & lighting. Hacklings transport for delivering the Christmas Tree and road closure cones free of charge. Clancy Docwra Ltd for help with the road closure signs.  Colin Baldwin Electrical & Forrester Access for their amazing work in putting the lights on the Christmas Tree. Agrihire, Gareth Davis from Avilon Property, Anthony Paul The Picture Taker, Councillor Paul Hemming & Paul Sorenson for putting the tree in the river. Fosse Way Lions for providing Father Christmas and The Picture Taker for some amazing pictures of the event and a very big thank you to the staff of Cotswold Security Ltd who courageously manned the road closures with a fantastic amount of patience and quite a few difficult conversations that were had throughout the evening.

Lastly we would like to thank our committee members chair Debbie Payne, Carol Teece, from Dutton’s Gift Shop, Leanne Launchbury from Bourton Vale Equestrian Centre, Rachel Heath & Becca McCabe from Cotswold Chine & Cookware, Andy & Chris Wallington from Cotswold Antiques, and Carol Groome from The Hearing & Mobility Store for all their hard work during the year in organising this event.

Happy New Year
